Jim Buckner

Jim Buckner’s career has closely followed the transition of news and information services from those devoted exclusively to the newspaper and broadcast industries to computer based delivery systems.

In 1981 he co-founded and was Director and Executive Vice President of Comtex Scientific Corporation, one of the first organizations to integrate multiple news sources for use by electronic media. Subsequently he inaugurated OTC NewsAlert, a product dedicated to coverage of the Over-the-Counter marketplace. Prior to that he served as President and Publisher of CD-RE: an archiving service for domestic and foreign news agencies; Publisher of Future Forum, a newspaper syndicate providing articles by scientists and business leaders on the social and economic consequences of new and developing technologies, and President of Professional & Technical Publishing, publisher of medical texts and abstracts. Prior to that Mr. Buckner was Vice President of Marketing and Administration and Pacific Division Manager for United Press International.

Before refocusing his interests on new business development, he spent several years as a reporter/writer with UPI, TIME magazine, the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Mirror News. Most recently he served as Director of Product Development for Kyodo News International, Asia’s largest news agency.
