Publisher INsider – The Young Turks
Sep 30, 2009
Time for the Publisher INsider where we highlight some of the most INovative, INteresting and INspirational content providers that are part of Newstex Blogs On Demand and Video On Demand.
This month, the Publisher INsider profiles The Young Turks whose content is offered through Newstex Video On Demand.
The Young Turks slogan says it all — “Rebel Headquarters”.
The Young Turks is considered the first nationwide liberal talk show and first live, daily Internet TV show. Videos from The Young Turks provide a funny, smart, irreverent and entertaining look at politics, sex, news, pop culture, current affairs and personal stories. The Young Turks airs live Monday F from 6:00-9:00 pm ET via webcast nationwide.
But that description doesn’t really tell the complete story about The Young Turks. This line from the site’s About page sums up The Young Turks quite well:
The Young Turks is revolutionary in, ” daring to be honest with people. We don’t patronize our viewers or lie to them. We have real conversations and deliver the news honestly.”
Along with honest reporting on a host of topics, The Young Turks provides authoritative content. The following quote from General Wesley Clark says it all:
“The role and impact of new media on the electoral process grows every year. The Young Turks get it. Their live webcast reaches and engages people where they live and work. It has become a part of the national conversation on the air and over the Internet.”
With recent videos about how Republicans feel about Fox News, fake prostitution rings, and how much reality television stars get paid, the content is most definitely varied, interesting, and insightful.
The Young Turks represents a perfect example of authoritative content coming from online video and nontraditional media sources (although one could argue that the term “nontraditional media sources” has changed a lot over the past few years — but I’ll save that for another post).
Are you using online video to share your own content, information and opinions? The doors of opportunity are wide open, as The Young Turks demonstrate. If you’re already publishing authoritative online videos, you can enhance your exposure and earn some money through Newstex licensed online syndication. Learn more here.
Publisher INsider – The Frugal Tech Show
Aug 21, 2009
Time for the Publisher INsider where we highlight some of the most INovative, INteresting and INspirational content providers that are part of Newstex Blogs On Demand and Video On Demand.

The Frugal Tech Show attracts guests from around the world who are IT industry experts and very capable of sharing their authoritative views, tips and suggestions to others in the IT profession in order to help them work more frugally.
At a time when the economy demands that professionals become more frugal, The Frugal Tech Show provides an insightful perspective into being frugal in the IT industry:
There is no doubt that the current economic situation makes the content on The Frugal Tech Show even more timely and important. But what’s most interesting about The Frugal Tech Show is the description of ‘frugal’ by the shows hosts:
Being frugal means more than just being cheap. It means changing your thinking and practices to get the most from what you have. Frugality also means spending your money wisely and putting that money to good use.
You should be frugal when times are good so that the so-called ‘lean’ times don’t devastate you and your business or livelihood.
Recent guests on The Frugal Tech Show have been IT executives and managers from well-known companies such as Microsoft, and conversations have spanned topics as diverse as virtualization to security and everything in between — always with a focus on frugality.
If you work in the IT field or just want to learn more from authoritative professionals in the IT industry, The Frugal Tech Show provides a great go-to place.

Publisher INsider – Daisy Whitney’s New Media Minute
Jul 20, 2009
Time for the Publisher INsider where we highlight some of the most INovative, INteresting and INspirational content providers that are part of Newstex Blogs On Demand and Video On Demand.
This month, the Publisher INsider profiles Daisy Whitney’s New Media Minute whose video content is offered through Newstex Video On Demand.
Daisy Whitney is one of the first journalists to launch an online newscast that focuses on the business of Internet video — Daisy Whitney’s New Media Minute. In her videos, Daisy discusses social networking, YouTube, iTunes, and other forms of online video and content distribution. Daisy is a natural in front of the camera, and she brings a broad background in business and new media with her to her video content. She can be found writing and speaking about new media in a variety of places such as Advertising Age and Beet.tv, and she has appeared on or been interviewed for a variety of online and offline publications and programs such as CNN’s Showbiz Tonight and CNBC’s Closing Bell.
In addition to her new media background, Daisy is also an author having written both young adult novels and commercial women’s fiction. It’s not surprising that she brings her knowledge of and interest in publishing to her videos, which gives them a unique perspective. For example, some of Daisy’s recent videos for New Media Minute focused on topics such as how to make six-figure income on YouTube and YouTube’s new moneymaking strategy, as well as subjects like what women want from new media and how publishers are trying to keep up with the digital age with author websites and multimedia books. Suffice it to say, Daisy Whitney’s videos are informative and very original.
To keep her videos interesting, Daisy doesn’t always film herself in the same place. In recent videos she took to the streets and even filmed in her backyard. The change of scenery makes the videos more personal and less corporate but doesn’t detract from Daisy’s expertise or her authoritative content. I love that her videos are typically under a few minutes in length (often under one minute) yet tell a complete story filled with snippets of interesting and useful information. Daisy creates several new videos each month, so there is always something new to see and learn on New Media Minute.
Newstex Video On Demand distributors can offer videos from Daisy Whitney’s New Media Minute to your customers. If you’re an online publisher and you’d like more information about syndicating your own content through Newstex, just contact us!
Publisher INsider – MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer
Jun 10, 2009
Time for the Publisher INsider where we highlight some of the most INovative, INteresting and INspirational content providers that are part of Newstex Blogs On Demand and Video On Demand.
This month, the Publisher INsider profiles MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer whose video content is offered through Newstex Video On Demand.
In his online videos, Shelly Palmer discusses “news you can use about technology, media, and entertainment,” and he knows what he’s talking about. Shelly has spent his career working in media and entertainment, and his resume includes a long list of awards for his creative, production, and technical efforts over the years. He also writes about technology for The Huffington Post, and he’s a technical commentator for CNN.com. Suffice it to say, he knows what he’s talking about.
MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer is a great online video program for several reasons, not the least of which is Shelly’s vast knowledge and expertise in the areas of media, entertainment and technology. He is also polished in front of the camera. His videos are produced very well and look like actual news segments. Shelly is well-spoken and packs a lot of information into his videos, which are typically short (most are under 2 minutes) and very easy to watch.
MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer is also very timely. For example, on June 9, 2009, when televisions were expected to switch to digital format, his video for the day discussed that very topic. He also isn’t afraid to create videos where he steps out from behind the desk. In his June 5, 2009 video, Shelly went skydiving with the Army’s Golden Knights.
Typically, Shelly creates several videos each week, so the content is always fresh. The MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer archive includes over 500 videos to date. Bottom-line, MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer is a perfect “go-to” place for media, entertainment and technology news and commentary delivered in small “bytes” that are both interesting, easily digestible, and fit into busy schedules.
Newstex Video On Demand distributors can offer videos from MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer to your customers. If you’re an online publisher and you’d like more information about syndicating your own content through Newstex, just contact us!
The Publisher INsider – SBTV.com
May 11, 2009
Time for the Publisher Insider where we highlight some of the most INovative, INteresting and INspirational content providers that are part of Newstex Blogs On Demand and Video On Demand.
This month, the Publisher INsider profiles SBTV.com whose video content is offered through Newstex Video On Demand.
SBTV.com is the premier video news and multimedia information destination for the 25 million small businesses in the United States. In fact, SBTV.com is a digital media pioneer. The site holds the title as the first television network on the Web (it launched in 2004) that is devoted 100% to small businesses, including entrepreneurs, start-ups and established enterprises.
SBTV.com is doing something right. With most video websites tracking visitor traffic statistics that show people spend just a few minutes watching an online video, SBTV.com statistics show that the average viewer spends more than 30 minutes on the site. SBTV.com cites several specific reasons why visitors not only stay on the site for such a long time but also why they return again and again:
- Expertly produced content.
- Professional journalists.
- Industry experts.
The content on SBTV.com is highly targeted to meet the expectations and needs of the primary, small business owner audience. Information and videos on the site focus on technical information, tips for running a business, success stories, conferences, associations, resources, and more. Take a look at a few recent video titles:
- Make Your Business a Media Magnet in 2009
- How I Created a $30 Million Website
- Watch Your Step When Going Global
There is no doubt that the videos offered by SBTV.com are useful for small business owners. In fact, I might even go so far as to say, SBTV.com is “must see TV” for small business owners.

The Publisher INSider – GlobalPost
Mar 27, 2009
In this special edition of the Publisher INsider series, we take a look at GlobalPost – a highly INovative, INteresting and INspirational content provider that is part of Newstex Content On Demand.
GlobalPost is a start-up company that launched in January 2009, but don’t let its “newness” fool you. In just two months, GlobalPost has built an online audience that delivers over 1 million page views per month. What makes GlobalPost so INteresting? Some people are calling it the next generation of news delivery.
GlobalPost operates using a unique business model. You’ve probably heard the debates about the future of printed newspapers and for-profit news organizations. With the amount of free content available online, for-profit journalism outlets have been struggling to find a financial model to support their businesses. Enter GlobalPost.
GlobalPost describes its business as:
GlobalPost.com is a new, U.S.-based but truly international news service. GlobalPost serves readers around the globe with in-depth multimedia reporting from more than 60 international correspondents. Our outstanding team of award-winning journalists includes more than 45 country-based correspondents, as well as beat reporters and analysts covering international business, energy, technology, health, environmental issues and a host of other specialties. Click here to see our growing list of recognized international correspondents and editors. GlobalPost fields the largest international news team of any U.S. journalism company, second only to the Associated Press cooperative.
Sound interesting? It is. GlobalPost’s correspondents include some of the most seasoned journalists who are given the freedom to tell the stories people want to hear without political bias. GlobalPost journalists live in the countries they report from and offer their own unique voices (from a U.S. perspective) harkening back to the “old days” of reporting.
Access to the news, stories, videos and more on GlobalPost.com is free, but a paid section of the site is available, called Passport, which provides more in-depth, specialized content than the average “news browser” might be interested in. That paid subscription service, in combination with advertising revenue, is what the founders of GlobalPost hope will keep the business growing. It certainly seems to be working so far.
Read The New York Times write-up about Global Post.
Newstex Content On Demand distributors can now offer content from GlobalPost to your customers. If you’re an online publisher and you’d like more information about syndicating your own content through Newstex, just contact us!
