Each year, a team of judges, including editors from Information Today, Inc., EContent magazine contributing editors, and other industry experts, analyzes companies in the digital content industry and identifies the 100 companies that made the biggest impacts during the year in a variety of categories.

The 2013 EContent 100 list includes eight categories:

  1. Distribution and delivery
  2. Search and analytics
  3. Web content management
  4. Content creation
  5. Content commerce
  6. Digital content provider
  7. Social media

In recognition of its accomplishments in providing tools and services that help publishers get their content to audiences, Newstex was named to the Distribution and Delivery category of the 2013 EContent 100 list. Newstex President Larry Schwartz said of the announcement:

“In 2013, we set the bar very high for Newstex. We continued to discover and license content from the best publishers and syndicate that content through leading distribution partners. At the same time, we expanded internationally and deepened our mobile content distribution offerings, which will continue in 2014 and beyond.

“It’s an honor to be included in the EContent 100 for the eighth year running and to be recognized alongside of many of our customers, business partners, and content providers like Copyright Clearance Center, ProQuest, Reed Elsevier, Thomson Reuters, AOL, Inc., and Automattic, Inc.”

EContent editor Theresa Cramer explained with the list’s release that the competition to get a space on the 2013 EContent 100 was tougher than ever. The number of important players in the digital content industry continues to grow with new innovations continually launching. In fact, Cramer speculates, “We are going to have to widen our net to catch all the companies that are so clearly integral parts of the econtent ecosystem but did not quite fit in this year’s predefined categories.”
